A 65-year-old former bank employee from Wahoo, Nebraska, will serve five years of federal supervised release for embezzling more than $323,000 from her employer.

U.S. District Judge Laurie Smith Camp sentenced Margaret Cherovsky on Monday.

Cherovsky had reached a deal with federal prosecutors that allowed her to plead guilty and avoid prison time. She admitted that she stole the money from FirstBank of Nebraska in Wahoo by depositing various amounts over the course of 20 years.

Cherovsky falsified bank records, saying the cash was damaged and no longer could circulate — but then kept it.

She already has paid back what she embezzled, according to court documents.
