He's a country master, and he's never had much to do with Nashville. dwight yoakam (pictured) is more of a honky tonk, Bakersfield, rock 'n' roll sort of country singer, and he's done just fine by racking up nine platinum albums, five of which hit No. 1 on Billboard's albums chart. see him rock things at stir Cove on Thursday. 2. The Faint

It's going to be loud. It's going to be sweaty. It's going to be awesome. The Faint released a new record, "Egowerk," in March on saddle Creek records. Now they're headed to The Waiting room Lounge to play a pair of hometown shows on Friday and saturday. Tickets, $25, at etix.com.

3. Cursive

The Omaha-based indie rockers are back in town for a special hometown show on saturday at the Winchester Bar & Grill. Me Without you and Appleseed Cast will open the show. Tickets via Brown Paper Tickets.

4. Marianas Trench

This pop-rock band just released a new album, "Phantoms," and drummer Ian Casselman told PopCrush that it was inspired by the band playing "a couple of legitimately haunted theaters where we've had some things happen." 5. Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears
