Mallory Bolduan is still getting acclimated to southwest Iowa. But the new Underwood coach knows she's ready to get on a court as soon as possible.

Underwood hired the 2011 Wayne State College graduate late last month. She's already working with returning assistant Katie Darrington to set up a summer league in town for players and preparing for team camps.

"I just expect us to be really competitive," said Bolduan, who will also teach social studies at the school. "I know we've been pretty competitive in the past, so I'm really excited to be part of Underwood. I'm looking to do some good things here."

Bolduan (pronounced BOLD-en) graduated from Battle Creek High School in 2006. She coached at Santee — one of the smallest schools in Nebraska — for a short time and has spent the last two years working in child development at Creighton.

Underwood graduates four seniors from a team that went 16-13 last season.
