Creighton will be looking to avoid its first five-game losing streak in eight seasons when it hosts St. John’s for a 7 p.m. game Friday at D.J. Sokol Arena.

The Jays (10-12, 4-7) came close to snapping their drought Sunday at Villanova. They went to double overtime, but the Wildcats held CU to 2 of 11 shooting during the two extra periods and handed Creighton a 67-62 defeat.

The slump has dropped the Bluejays into eighth place in the Big East standings. But on Friday they will host the team sitting right behind them in ninth place.

The Red Storm (10-12, 3-8) had experienced similar struggles — they lost seven of their previous eight games before blowing out last-place Xavier on Sunday. St. John’s has dropped three straight to Creighton.

A defeat for the Jays on Friday would mean they’d have to finish the regular season 5-1 to enter the Big East tournament with a record over .500.
