PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Audrey Faber struggled at Xavier last Sunday, scoring two points on 1-of-12 shooting in Creighton’s one-point win.

But the senior rebounded Saturday afternoon, scoring 21 points as the Bluejays beat Providence 73-64.

“I thought Audrey did a good job early of not settling and driving at the basket,” coach Jim Flanery said in a press release. “She had a big first half without making a 3.”

Creighton has won three of four since snapping a five-game skid Feb. 10.

“We’re a littler healthier, and I just think we’ve stayed as positive as you can be, which is super important,” Flanery said. “We haven’t had the year we thought we could have, but our kids have come to practice and understood that once we get healthy, we could be a better team.”

Faber scored 12 points in the first half to help CU (13-14, 7-9 Big East) build a double-digit lead. Then her 3-pointer with just less than eight minutes remaining in the game pushed Creighton’s lead back to 10.

Providence never got closer than six after that.

Temi Carda added 14 points and nine rebounds and Jaylyn Agnew had six assists for CU.

The Jays, who shot 41.5 percent at Xavier, improved to 47.1 percent Saturday, despite going 8 for 26 from 3-point range.

The Jays used a 10-1 run in the first period to seize the lead for good. Creighton trailed 8-4 when Faber started the run and the Jays moved ahead 14-9 on a 3-pointer by Payton Brotzki .

With two games remaining, the Jays pulled into a tie with St. John’s for sixth place in the Big East, a half-game behind fifth-place Villanova.

CU will host Marquette at 7 p.m. Friday. The Golden Eagles lead the Big East at 13-2 and beat Creighton 85-67 Dec. 31 in Milwaukee.
