NEW YORK — The Creighton men’s soccer team scored three straight goals in the second half Saturday to pull away for a 3-1 win against a shorthanded St. John’s team.

The No. 8 Bluejays (8-2-1, 4-0-0 Big East) controlled possession during a scoreless first half and didn’t allow the Red Storm (6-4-1, 2-1-1) to record a shot.

St. John’s scored on its first shot of the game when Tani Oluwaseyi connected in the 49th minute to give the Red Storm a 1-0 lead.

Kuba Polat tied the game 1-1 on a penalty kick in the 55th minute. Younes Boudadi was taken down from behind just outside the 18-yard box to set up the shot for Polat, who is 2 for 2 on penalty kicks this season.

Creighton and St. John’s each had a player ejected in the 60th minute for receiving a red card, forcing both teams to play with 10 players.

St. Johns had another player ejected four minutes later for receiving his second yellow card, and the Red Storm had to finish the game with nine players.

Creighton capitalized with two goals in a span of three minutes.

Yudai Tashiro fired a shot that was blocked in the 71st minute, then recovered the loose ball and put it in the net to give Creighton a 2-1 lead. It was Tashiro’s first goal for Creighton.

Boudadi put the Bluejays ahead 3-1 in the 74th minute by collecting a rebound near the goal and one-touching it past the goalkeeper for his first career score.

Creighton finished with a 16-4 shot advantage, including a 10-2 lead in shots on goal.

The win improved Creighton to 4-0 in the Big East for the first time since 2015, when the Bluejays opened conference play 6-0.
