A pair of Creighton soccer players were selected in the first two rounds of the MLS SuperDraft on Friday.

Defender Akeem Ward was taken with the 14th overall pick by DC United, while midfielder Joel Rydstrand was taken by the Seattle Sounders in the second round as he was the 44th overall selection.

Ward, who was an all-Big East first-team selection during the 2018 season, becomes Creighton's ninth MLS SuperDraft first-round pick. He's the first Jay taken in the opening round since 2016 when Fabian Herbers was selected.

Rydstrand led Creighton in assists the past three seasons and was named the Big East midfielder of the year as a senior. He finished with 23 career assists and made 81 starts.

Ward and Rydstrand helped Creighton go 11-4-3 and win the Big East regular-season title last season.
