VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Creighton men’s soccer team earned its first Big East road win in nearly two years Saturday by beating Villanova 1-0.

Luke Haakenson scored the game’s only goal midway through the second half to give the No. 12 Bluejays (5-1-1, 2-0) their fourth straight win.

Creighton had not won a conference road game since its 4-1 victory at DePaul on Sept. 24, 2016. The Bluejays had lost eight straight regular-season road games before Saturday’s win over the Wildcats (5-3, 0-2).

Creighton outshot Villanova 8-3 in the first half, but the game was scoreless going into halftime.

The Bluejays broke through in the 69th minute when Haakenson scored a header off a pass from Akeem Ward. It was Haakenson’s second goal of the season and Ward’s team-leading fourth assist.

The Bluejays finished with a 16-7 edge in shots.

Creighton goalkeeper Paul Kruse finished with three saves to give the Bluejays their third straight shutout. Creighton has not allowed a goal in its past 295:10 of action and has given up two goals all season.

CU next plays at home Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Jacksonville.
