Creighton missed out on a chance to make a mid-summer roster addition as recruit A.J. Lawson has announced he plans to attend South Carolina.

Lawson, a 6-foot-6 guard from Canada, released his decision in conjunction with Tuesday night.

Lawson was initially labeled as a 2019 prospect, but he reclassified to make himself eligible for the 2018-19 season. He was ranked as the No. 40 overall recruit on the 247Sports rankings among 2019 recruits before changing classes. Rivals has him listed as four-star prospect.

The Jays were one of Lawson's three finalists. He visited last week. He also considered Tulane.

But the Gamecocks were ultimately his top choice. South Carolina was the first school he traveled to in June once he made the decision to reclassify.

Creighton does still have one scholarship remaining for the 2018-19 season. The Jays have already added graduate transfer Connor Cashaw (from Rice) and sit-out transfer Denzel Mahoney (from Southeast Missouri).
