25 Days of Jays: No. 9 Megan Ballenger

Creighton's Megan Ballenger, right, can line up anywhere along the net. She serves, blocks and (occasionally) sets. Ballenger’s hitting percentage (.304) was third on the team last year.

The World-Herald is counting down the 25 must-see athletes across all Creighton sports to help usher in CU's 2018-19 athletic season, which kicks off Aug. 19.

Megan Ballenger

Volleyball • Junior middle blocker/RS hitter

The box score doesn’t always convey Ballenger’s impact, but she’s as versatile as they come. Her coaches are grateful for that. Ballenger can line up anywhere along the net. She serves, blocks and (occasionally) sets. Ballenger’s hitting percentage (.304) was third on the team last year. The junior from Ankeny, Iowa, averaged 2.32 kills per set, fourth for the Bluejays. She was second with 90 blocks. Those numbers are likely to increase as she helps CU replace middle blocker Marysa Wilkinson. Creighton’s attack is lethal enough to feature multiple stars — Ballenger included.
