25 Days of Jays: No. 4 Martin Krampelj

Creighton's Martin Krampelj averaged 15.2 points and 10.8 rebounds, shooting 66.0 percent from the floor in his first five league games.

The World-Herald is counting down the 25 must-see athletes across all Creighton sports to help usher in CU's 2018-19 athletic season, which kicks off Aug. 19.

Martin Krampelj

Basketball • Junior forward

Krampelj’s season-ending injury came when he was emerging as a star last year. He produced some positive moments during the nonconference schedule — but the start of Big East play brought out the best in the 6-foot-9 forward from Slovenia.

He averaged 15.2 points and 10.8 rebounds, shooting 66.0 percent from the floor in his first five league games. He’s on track to return healthy for the start of the season.

That means he’ll likely be the focal point in Creighton’s offense. He can step out and hit 3-pointers. He can grab lob passes and dunk powerfully. He’s a muscular and agile force at forward, someone who is difficult for opponents to match up with and who will open things up for teammates.
