LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Jared Wegner belted a grand slam while Jason Allbery and Garrett Gilbert each added a pair of hits Saturday as Creighton beat Arkansas-Little Rock 13-8.

The Bluejays (2-0) led 8-2 after a five-run fourth when Wegner, a freshman from Kearney, cleared the bases when he drove a 3-2 pitch from Arkansas-Little Rock reliever Aaron Funk over the left-field fence.

CU has scored double-digit runs in each of its first two games. Allbery and Gilbert each had two RBIs, and designated hitter Jake Holton walked and scored three times.

Allbery doubled home a run in a three-run second and followed with another RBI double in the fourth.

With CU leading 12-2, the Trojans (0-2) scored five in the bottom of the fifth to chase Bluejay starter Denson Hull, who struck out six and allowed six runs in 41⁄3 innings.

Freshman Paul Bergstrom (1-0) pitched an inning of scoreless relief to earn his first career win. Six Bluejay pitchers combined to strike out 12 batters.

The Jays will wrap up the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
