CLASS C-2 NO. 2 NORFOLK LUTHERAN
Coach: Darin Suckstorf, seventh season
Last season: Lost in semifinals to David City Aquinas in overtime of the semifinals
Returning starters: OL/DL Ryan Freudenburg (Sr.), QB/WR Shaka Taylor (Sr.), TE/LB Myles Kant (Sr.), RB/LB Cody Boche (Sr.), RB/LB Nick Stolze (Jr.), OL/DL Jordan Risor (Sr.), RB/DB Kyle Roseberg (Jr.), RB/LB Keaton Alberts (Jr.)
Kenny Blank and Aarin Rathke: The graduated quarterback and running back, respectively, each rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season.
KEY RETURNING PLAYER
Freudenberg: Freudenberg will anchor the lines this year. The 6-footb-4, 295-pound senior is getting looks from Division I schools, including Kansas and Kansas State.
KEY POSITION CHANGES
Taylor: Moves from slot receiver to quarterback
A point of emphasis on offense will be to develop depth on the offensive line. Four players were lost from last year’s offensive line, so finding players to replace them will be a key factor to this season’s success. Taylor looks comfortable early on at quarterback.
The Eagles will have a senior leader at each level of the defense this season — Freudenberg on the line, Kant at linebacker and Taylor in the secondary.
