Matt Fields was done.
He'd played six seasons in the Tampa Bay organization, hitting 83 homers while reaching Class AA, but the Rays released him. He had played another season of independent ball, but he was 25 and engaged to be married, and ready to go back to school to become a teacher while also possibly doing some kind of baseball instruction.
