Monday’s homicide in Ralston was the first in the community in nearly 12 years.

A 42-year-old woman was shot and killed Monday night at the Orleans Square Apartments, 4748 S. 83rd St.

Ralston police responded to the scene at about 11:40 p.m. Monday night.

They identified the victim as Amiee J. Kearns, said Ralston Police Chief Ron Murtaugh. Kearns lived at the apartment complex.

Murtaugh said two Hispanic males forcibly entered Kearns’ apartment and demanded money.

Kearns was shot and died at the scene.

Another person was in the apartment at the time but was not injured. Murtaugh said police are not releasing information about that person at this time.

Murtaugh said witnesses saw the suspects leave the area in a light blue, larger “boxy” vehicle such as a Lincoln Continental or Ford of some type, Murtaugh said.

The car was last seen traveling east on Seymour Street.

Murtaugh said the last homicide in Ralston, about 12 years ago, was a domestic situation between an ex-boyfriend and girlfriend.
