Metro transit is offering free rides on its revised Route 93 from Monday to Nov. 8.
The revised route, which serves residents of Ralston, Papilion and La Vista who commute to downtown Omaha, has served the area for several decades.
It has now been streamlined along 84th Street to reduce travel time and attract new customers. It will reach downtown Omaha in 31 minutes. Two departure times, 30 minutes apart, will be offered in the mornings and two return trips will be offered in the afternoon.
"We know there are plenty of people commuting from this area every day. We just needed to offer a more competititve alternative to driving alone," Metro Transit Executive Director Curt Simon said in a press release.
The route risked losing funding from Ralston, Papillion and La Vista earlier this year because of cost and low ridership.
The route is anchored by two Park & Ride locations along 84th Street. The first is at Tara Plaza, north of 84th Street and Cornhusker Road. The second is at CVS Pharmacy, 84th and Harrison streets.
Passengers who live near 84th Street will also have the option of walking or biking to select stops along the route as the bus travels toward Interstate 80.
