A Papillion franchise is celebrating its founding store’s 100th anniversary.
Chocolaterie Stam first opened in 1913 in the Netherlands, serving fine chocolate throughout Europe.
Now the company has nine stores in the United States, including the Papillion location.
“It’s very impressive that a company makes it to the 100-year mark, especially one that was founded in Amsterdam,” said Papillion franchise owner Suzi Bonnet.
Chocolaterie Stam, 7474 Towne Center Parkway, will host an open house for the company’s 100th anniversary on Oct. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m.
“It’s a way of recognizing 100 years of business on both sides of the ocean,” Bonnet said. “We’re proud to be a part of that and bring their very high quality product to the United States and Papillion.”
At the open house, guests will be treated to appetizers and samples of Chocolaterie Stam’s chocolate and gelato. Ton Stam, grandson of the company’s founder, will be attending the open house at the Papillion location.
The event will be a thank you to current customers and a way to welcome new customers, Bonnet said.
Chocolates sold at all locations are made using the same family recipes dating back to the original Dutch store. Many of the products are still made to have an Old World look, Bonnet said.
Bonnet and her husband, Chad, opened the Papillion location in November 2009.
The store is gaining a following, Bonnet said. Many groups come in to study, meet or host events. They’re also starting to see more business from corporate customers and weddings.
“You can pick out one chocolate or a box of 100. We can do anything,” Bonnet said.
