Bellevue West edged Skutt 2-1 in a battle of preseason ranked foes Thursday afternoon.
The Class A No. 8 Thunderbirds got a game-winning goal from Kelsey Smith in the second half to trip up the Class B No. 3 Skyhawks.
Madi Braun added the other tally for the Thunderbirds.

Papillion-La Vista 2, Lincoln Pius X 0 - Miranda Swift and Jocelyn Gillespie each notched goals as the Monarchs took the opening game of the Lincoln Northeast Invite Friday.
The Monarchs would fall to Millard West 4-0 in Saturday’s championship tilt.
Bryan 6, Omaha Northwest 0 - Gennesys Hernandez recorded a hat trick as the Bears gained a split in Saturday’s Bryan Tournament.
Stephanie Gaytan, Dianna Estrada and Abigail Neri also notched goals for the Bears (1-2).
Bryan would suffer a 1-0 overtime loss to Benson in its other match Saturday.
Bellevue East 3, Duchesne 1 - Peyton Hagen scored twice as East gained a third place finish at Saturday’s Bellevue East Tournament.
Nichole Reiple recorded the other tally for the Chieftains.
Kearney needed overtime to edge East 2-1 in the first match of the day. Brandi Menephee recorded East’s lone goal.
Gretna 10, Bennington 1 - Bella Arkfeld had a hat trick and six different Dragons scored in the season-opening romp Thursday at home.
Maren Soupir and Ellie Karloff notched two goals apiece while single tallies were scored by Annie Sullivan, Makenzie Burmeister and Lyndsey Harpenau.
Gross 5, Schuyler 0 - Gross notched its second shutout of week Saturday at the Kroc Center.
Goalkeeper Alex Tooley needed to make just one save in the shutout as Liza Martinez sparked the offense with two goals. Single goals were scored by Sophia Ketchmark, Renee Lohaus and Kayla Johnk.
Gross 2, Duchesne 0 - Tooley turned away seven shots in the shutout as Martinez and Ketchmark provided the offense in Thursday’s season opener.
Ralston 2, Bryan 1 - Rachel Buswell and Sierra Athow found the back of the net as the Rams held off the Bears in Thursday’s opener.
Buswell also had an assist while Ixchel Alvarado had Bryan’s lone goal. Kerlin Cisneros had 14 saves for the Bears in goal.
