Gutierrez sparks Rams to Plattsmouth title

Diego Gutierrez recorded his third hat trick of the season to give Ralston a 4-0 victory over Plattsmouth in the championship game of the Plattsmouth Invite Saturday afternoon.

Gutierrez has 21 goals for the 12-3 Rams this season to go along with seven assists.

Steve Shanahan had the other goal with Ty Theisen dishing out two assists. Mike O’Brien and the Ram defense turned away three shots in goal in the shutout.

The Rams got to the finals by edging Lutheran High/Norfolk Catholic 3-2 in the semifinals.

Theisen had a goal and two assists while Gutierrez and Mario Cortes also found the back of the net in the victory.

Platteview dropped both its matches in the tourney, falling to Plattsmouth 3-2 in a shootout in the semifinals before an 8-0 loss to Lutheran High/NC in the consolation.

Chandler Briggs and Conrad Lawrence each had goals for the Trojans against Plattsmouth. Zach Woods had 11 saves in goal.

Regular season matches:

Roncalli 5, Platteview 2 - Briggs and Lawrence had Platteview’s only goals while Chris Eads recorded 12 saves.

Ralston 4, Gross 3 - Ralston held off the Cougars in the high scoring RCC affair April 22.

Gutierrez, Robbie McEvoy, Theisen and Tristan Mikkelson each had goals for the Rams with Theisen recording two assists.

Cameron Larson, Brad Smith and Trevor Yanovich notched goals for the Cougars.

South Sioux City 3, Ralston 0 - O’Brien had five saves in the loss.

Elkhorn MM 3, Gross 2 - The Cougars slipped to 5-9 on the year with Friday’s loss at the Kroc Center.

Skutt 1, Gretna 0 - Trey Mendlik’s goal in the second overtime helped the No. 9 Skyhawks upset Class B No. 1 Gretna April 22.

Austin Obermeyer recorded three saves in the setback.

Papillion-La Vista South 1, Westside 0 - The sixth-ranked Titans recorded their third consecutive shutout by blanking the No. 5 Warriors.

Zak Stevenson scored with 14 minutes left in the first half off an assist from Adam Dejka and the Titan defense and Cullen Fisch did the rest as Fisch turned away seven shots for his seventh shutout of the season.

Papillion-La Vista 3, Benson 0 - BJ Frankman, Tyler Cox and Alex Aurich each had goals to lift the Monarchs in the April 21 match.

Nate Frankman and James Getrost combined for eight saves in the shutout.

Papillion-La Vista 3, Burke 0 - Cox and Thalles Silva-Santos each had a goal and an assist in the victory.

BJ Frankman had the other tally with Nate Frankman and Getrost again combining for the shutout with six saves.

Millard North 2, P-LV 1 - The Mustangs edged the Monarchs in Friday’s opening game of the Millard South Invite.

Papio bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Burke in the consolation round.

BJ Frankman’s goal midway through the second half snapped a 1-all deadlock while Silva-Santos also found the back of the net.

Bryan 2, Burke 1 - Aaron Rodriguez’s penalty kick goal midway through the second overtime provided the winning margin for the Bears.

Marlon Vega scored in regulation for Bryan (10-7) while Eduardo Roldan turned away five shots on goal.

Lincoln Northeast 2, Bryan 1 - A late penalty kick proved to be the deciding goal for the Rockets.

Creighton Prep 4, Bryan 0 - Second-ranked Prep notched three first-half goals and never looked back.

Westside 4, Bellevue West 2 - Westside did all its scoring in the first half as it held off the Thunderbirds for the win.

West also dropped a 3-0 verdict to Lincoln Southwest.

Bellevue East 3, Omaha North 0 - Daniel McCollum turned away six shots in gaining the shutout for the Chieftains.

East goals were scored by Danny Whitfield, Logan Hoefer and Nathan Milos.

Millard North 4, Bellevue East 1 - Hoefer had East’s only goal in the loss.
