Dragons, Trojans race to titles

The Platteview girls and the Gretna boys picked up team victories at Thursday's Platteview Track and Field Invite.

Platteview edged Plattsmouth by five points (89-84) for the girls title with Gretna running away to a 31 point victory over Skutt (120.33-89) on the boys side.

The Gretna girls finished fourth with Gross coming in sixth.

The Trojans had a balanced effort with strong showings in both the field and on the track.

Sydney Feller gave them an early spark with a victory in the high jump (5 foot) before Kenzie Kulm and Nicki Stolzer went 2-3 in the shot put. Kulm also placed third in the discus.

Mackenzie Zach, taking a break from the sprint events, went 18-1 to win the long jump while Delaney Bauer took third in the pole vault.

On the track, Emily Ervin excelled in the sprint events by winning the 200-meter dash in 27.45 seconds and taking second in the 100. Megan Gillen took fourth in the 1,600 and fifth in the 3,200 while Jessy Gilbert finished third in the 1,600. Platteview was runner-up in the 3,200 relay.

Gretna's 400 relay team produced its lone victory with a time of 52.90. Jada Ruff finished fourth in the 100 and third in the long jump while Kate Larsen and Kayla Calvert placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,200.

Cassy Sunderman was a runner-up in the high jump and Allie Roberts took fourth in the 200.

Gross was led by a 1-2 showing from Carly Sledge and Jenna Macaitis in the discus with Sledge recording a winning toss of 98-3.

Brittney Vomacka and Joelle Overkamp went second and fourth, respectively, in the long jump while Vomacka also placed fourth in the 400 and Overkamp third in the 300 hurdles.

Gretna's Derek Templeman continued his domination on the track as he won both the 800 (2:05.84) and 1,600 (4:43.75) events on the day. He was also a part of a winning Dragon effort in the 3,200 relay.

Teammate Nicholas Roberts won both hurdle events, taking the 110 title in 16.08 and the 300 crown in 42.95. Nick Boardman was second to Roberts in the 300 and fourth in the 110. Gretna's final victory came from Noah Klimm as he cleared 11 even to win the pole vault.

Dustin Matlock was third in the 800 and Austin Henry was runner-up in the 3,200 for the Dragons. Mick Stoltenberg finished third in the discus while Ricky Johnson did the same in the high jump. Levi Horton (triple jump) and Jimmy Barnes (vault) each took fourth.

Platteview placed third in the boys team race with Gross finishing fifth.

Seth Starks paced Platteview by winning the high jump and taking second in the long jump and 110 hurdles.

Platteview's 400 and 1,600 relay squads grabbed top finishes while Noah Schlange placed third in the 100. Adam Granville was a runner-up in the 800 with Hayden Meyer (200) and Bobby Shafer (vault) each finishing fourth.

Gross' lone victory came from Aaron Frickel as he took the 3,200 title. Noah Arneson was second in the shot put and James Farnan placed third in the 400.
