After losing the first game in the Midland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, the Bellevue University baseball team clawed their way back to the championship game.
The Bruins’ rally came up short in the championship game with a 12-8 setback to top-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan Saturday in Bartlesville, Okla.
Despite the loss in the finals, the Bruins still appear to have a good chance at being selected to the NAIA Opening Round. The complete Opening Round field will be announced Friday.
York 4, Bellevue 2 - York scored three runs in the top of the second that proved to be enough for the win.
Kyle Kinman stuck out 11 in his seven innings of work, but didn’t get enough help from his defense with three the four runs allowed being unearned.
Zack Clark and Nate Mullins each had two hits to lead the offense. Kinman and Charlie Krueger tallied BU’s two RBIs.
Bellevue 15, Central Baptist 5 - The bats came alive for the Bruins in the elimination game, sparked by a seven run sixth inning.
Mullins paced the offense with three hits and six RBIs, including a two-run home run. Devin Ferguson added three RBIs with Tyler Blood adding three hits. Joe Mancuso added a double and triple with an RBI.
Ricky Holm allowed just one run in six innings of work for the win.
Bellevue 11, College of the Ozarks 5 - BU scored at least once in each of the last six innings to keep stay alive in the tournament.
Mancuso clubbed four hits, three for extra bases, to go with his five RBIs. Kinman and Aaron Brasher each drove in two runs.
Brennen Henry earned the win with eight innings of pitching and nine strikeouts.
Bellevue 10, York 4 - BU avenged its opening round loss to the Panthers to advance to the title game. The Bruins scored five in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead and cruised the rest of the way to the win.
Ferguson drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Bruins. Mancuso knocked three doubles and two RBIs with Mullins adding two RBIs on three hits, one a home run.
Steve Sarcone picked up the won on the bump with a complete game. Sarcone scattered five hits and struck out five.
Oklahoma Wesleyan 12, Bellevue 8 - OKU scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to push its 8-7 lead to 12-7 and held on for the win for the MCAC title.
Cribbs and Ferguson led BU with two hits and two RBIs apiece. Mullins and Krueger each blasted solo home runs.
