Two people riding a motorcycle were critically injured near Gretna Wednesday after crashing into a median barricade.

The crash occurred about 3 p.m. on Highway 50 and westbound Interstate 80 in western Sarpy County.

Witnesses reported the motorcycle traveling west on I-80 had begun to fishtail moments before the crash, said Lt. Mike Erhart of the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office.

Upon arrival, sheriff's deputies found the Harley-Davidson motorcycle on top of the male driver. The female passenger was lying on the pavement. Both were wearing helmets.

The victims were taken to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. The man was flown by medical helicopter, and the woman was taken by the Gretna Fire Department.

Traffic was shutdown on westbound I-80 at Highway 50 for 45 minutes, Erhart said.

The Papillion, La Vista and Bellevue police departments and the Nebraska State Patrol assisted with the crash.

Names and conditions of the victims haven't been released.
