Several businesses and individuals were honored April 4 at Tobacco Free Sarpy's Reason to Celebrate luncheon for being strong advocates for smoke-free environments.

The Retailer Recognition Awards went to Omar Kambi of Tobacco King in Bellevue, Kevin Mandina of Big Dogs Beverage in Gretna and JD and Donna Dropinski of JD's Liquor Locker in La Vista. Jeff Stangl accepted the award for the Dropinskis.

These three businesses have each reduced underage smoking by checking IDs and keeping tobacco out of the hands of youth.

The Business of the Year Award was presented to SAC Federal Credit Union, the Bellevue credit union that is building its new headquarters in Papillion, for its dedication to creating and keeping a tobacco-free campus policy.

The Volunteer of the Year Award went to B.J. Stussy for her work in making Sarpy County businesses tobacco free.

The TFS Partner of the Year award was given to Live Wise Regional for its dedication of time, resources and man-power to TFS. Jennifer Green was there to accept the award.

The TFS Legacy Award was presented to Joan Friedman for her commitment to the organization and the cause.
