Twitter users can now follow along with accidents, fires and police calls by following the Sarpy County 911 Center.

A new account, @SarpyCounty911, sends out the latest information and updates from the 911 center.

All information is tweeted as reported to emergency dispatchers.

“We think it’s going to be a good tool to let the public know what’s going on,” said Fred Uhe, Sarpy County communications coordinator.

The account, which went live on Saturday morning, had about 270 followers by Monday afternoon.

Douglas County 911 also has a Twitter account, @DCNE911. Uhe said they heard about the Douglas County account and representatives said they were happy with it.

With the account, Uhe said the Douglas County center had a reduced number of calls.

“We were looking at some of the protocols being done by other agencies and decided this might be something to help the public and the media,” Uhe said.
