A Bellevue man died in a fire late Tuesday evening at his apartment in Olde Towne.

The apartment at 706 W. Mission Ave. was rented by John Stewart, 49, according to Kathy Sutton, who owns the property. Stewart worked for Offut Collision Repair, Sutton said, but the business declined to comment Wednesday out of respect for the family's wishes.

The fire was reported about 11:30 p.m. at a two-story structure, which houses Pulsar Electronics on the lower level.

The Nebraska State Fire Marshal's Office is waiting results of an autopsy before they release a cause of death, said Bellevue Fire Battalion Chief Joe Gibilisco.

Firefighters took about 13 minutes to control the blaze, Gibilisco said. He said it was difficult because the second floor could only be accessed from the back of the building.

The Offut Fire Department provided assistance.
