Dave Compton, the Bellevue planning commissioner who some council members wanted appointed to the City Council Ward I seat last year, has filed for mayor.

Compton, a Republican, joins Mayor Rita Sanders, also a Republican, in the nonpartisan primary that will see two candidates advance to the general election.

Compton is the owner of Olde Towne-based D.C. Electric and has been an advocate of developing Olde Towne and attracting new businesses to the city.

He argued last fall, during an unsuccessful attempt to get elected to the Ward I seat, that Bellevue cannot prosper unless it improves its sales tax base.
