Nebraskan's pursuit of elk takes him to picturesque Montana
Mike Jansen of Omaha harvested a 5x5 bull elk in Montana. “You work hard to get the job done. The critters are there,'' he said. “It's just a matter of them cooperating. On a weeklong hunt, you're hoping to get one shot. And you have to make that shot count.”

Darkness blanketed Mike Jansen and his guide as they began their trek up the side of the mountain.
The elevation in the valley where they began their hike was 2,500 feet. By sunrise, they had worked their way up to 6,000 feet. At 6 a.m., they were atop a ridge gazing down at deep valleys on either side.
