The Nebraska Supreme Court last week publicly reprimanded District Court Judge Gregory Schatz of Omaha for intervening in the drunken-driving case of an attorney with whom he is friends.
In doing so, the court affirmed one of the first acts of the Nebraska Legislature, when it declared in 1867 that the state motto would be: “Equality before the law.”
