Nebraska and Iowa aren’t the only states that have seen major consolidation of public school districts. A recent article by Stateline, a news service covering state government, reported on school consolidation debates not only in Great Plains states but also in Maine, New York, New Jersey and California.
Our country’s military “pivot” toward Asia has been widely reported, but getting less attention is the fact that China’s neighbors themselves are pursuing a wider assortment of closer security ties. There is now a bilateral security agreement linking Singapore and Vietnam, one between Japan and Australia, and one joining India and South Korea. Japan recently conducted a joint military exercise with India, and South Korea is selling submarines and military aircraft to Indonesia, all a result of China asserting itself so strongly in the region.
