Nebraska is by no means the only state facing ongoing challenges on the foster care front. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer just announced a major revamp of how her state handles such cases, and in Florida, Gov. Rick Scott said he’s directing $31 million in additional funds to reduce caseloads and increase oversight.
Given the good examples he sets in family life, President Barack Obama’s recent comments about marijuana being no more dangerous than alcohol are disappointing. The president, who has admitted smoking marijuana as a younger man, said he told his daughters he wouldn’t want them to smoke weed. But his public comments unfortunately minimize the damage that can be done by illegal drugs.
