A governing board has been named to oversee the new medical entity combining the Nebraska Medical Center, the Bellevue Medical Center and UNMC Physicians. The creation of that new entity is an important and complex undertaking, with important ramifications for health care as well as the University of Nebraska Medical Center. It’s encouraging to see that the new board consists of capable men and women with experience directly relevant to the board’s duties.
If there were any doubt about the exposure Creighton University’s move to the Big East Conference might bring, ESPN’s SportsCenter broadcast Tuesday night should erase it. Senior basketball star Doug McDermott and the school’s logo elbowed aside Super Bowl media day to grab the lead of the nation’s biggest sports platform. For several minutes, the network showed highlights of the Jays’ win over St. John’s and discussed McDermott as college basketball’s likely player of the year. The anchor then transitioned to Super Bowl coverage with Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning’s “Omaha!” Priceless.
