World War II memorial rededication honors veterans
A plaque with the names of 40 servicemen who played baseball in Omaha and died in World War II is the main feature of a 6-foot limestone monument in left field at John Stella Field in Brown Park. The plaque was moved last year from Rosenblatt Stadium, where it had been for nearly 50 years.

A catcher wearing the uniform of the Omaha South Legion team awaited the pitch at John Stella Field in Brown Park near 16th and U Streets. But Sgt. Herechski wore a different kind of uniform: Army battle fatigues from his deployment in Iraq.
