Darvon Valentine-Austin braved the chilly afternoon air Tuesday to break up ice and shovel snow at his mother's Omaha house. Valentine-Austin said he took over work on the driveway for his mother to keep her from being out in the cold.

The coming days are expected to be warmer. AccuWeather, the World-Herald's weather consultant, predicts high temperatures in the upper 30s to lower 40s through Friday, which should make breaking up any remaining hardened snow and ice easier.
