As the College World Series approaches, the Gene Leahy Mall continues to look like a giant mud pit while it undergoes a major renovation. The $1.8 million project — which will deepen, reline and reshape the lagoon — is expected to be completed in the fall.

With downtown Omaha about to experience one of its biggest annual tourist events, one of its central parks is in disarray.
Gene Leahy Mall is undergoing a $1.8million renovation to dredge the lagoon and install new trails and lighting amid preparations for the College World Series, which starts this week.
