LINCOLN — A temporary plan to relieve prison overcrowding survived an attack Wednesday by one of the Nebraska Legislature's leading authorities on prison issues.
The action came after a civil rights group promised to sue the state unless it takes steps soon to ease chronic crowding in its prisons, which now hold about 1,700 more inmates than their design capacity.
