LINCOLN — Lawmakers advanced a bill Wednesday to change how Nebraska carries out the politically charged task of redistricting.
State Sen. Russ Karpisek of Wilber wants an independent commission to carry out redistricting rather than a nine-member committee of legislators. He said he introduced the bill to lessen the partisan rancor that accompanied past redistricting efforts.
