Quick-thinking 12-year-old honored for bravery during home burglary

She kept calm. She had a plan. And with a burglar in her home, she kept herself safe by calling police, locking herself in a bathroom and then climbing out a window.
On Wednesday, Omaha police honored 12-year-old Katelyn Allen with an award for bravery and courage during an all-school assembly at Westside’s Westbrook Elementary, 1312 Robertson Drive.
