Jerry Furlong remembers watching the newly elected pontiff step onto a Vatican balcony and, rather than blessing the crowd first, asking the throng in St. Peter's Square to pray for him.
“He indicated a kind of humility” said Furlong, an Omaha Catholic. “There was a sense of oneness with him.”
