Oldest in order, Sister Laurentia dies in Omaha at 105

Sister Mary Laurentia Cerovac of Omaha has died at age 105 — the oldest sister in the six communities that make up the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. The communities serve North, South and Central America, the Caribbean, Guam and the Philippines.

For 55 years, Sister Laurentia taught in the elementary grades, mostly at Omaha Catholic schools. During the 1930s, she worked at St. James Orphanage in Omaha. She also taught briefly in Friend, Neb.; Des Moines; and Kansas City and Marshall, Mo.
