Medic unit snarled in Fire Department budget debate
This ambulance, Medic 3, was activated in the spring by former Mayor Jim Suttle and Fire Chief Mike McDonnell. It's meant to boost lagging response times in southeast Omaha — at an annual cost of roughly $725,000. The unit, the center of a city budget debate, is the one that sped City Councilman Garry Gernandt to a hospital after he suffered a recent heart attack at Spring Lake Park during an appearance with Mayor Jean Stothert.
