Kelly: Singer, whose mom has Alzheimer's, comes home to Omaha for 'the long goodbye'
Carol Rogers, 59, who toured the world for years with Sergio Mendes, moved back to Omaha to be near her mother, Jeanne Rogers, 79, who has Alzheimer's disease. Jeanne Rogers was a teacher and principal who sang and played at Omaha clubs. Carol Rogers will take part in Sunday's “Walk to End Alzheimer's” at Midtown Crossing.

Omaha native Carol Rogers has enjoyed a singing career that made her mother proud — and maybe, in a loving way, a little envious.
Carol, who grew up hearing her mom sing and play jazz piano, traveled the world for 25 years with Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes and his band.
