In the spring of 1970, a New Jersey couple drove their unmarried and pregnant daughter halfway across the country so she could give birth in a place they had never visited: Omaha.
“It was a terrible drive,” said Jeanne Nott, now 65. “I sat in the back seat, and we weren't talking. There was so much shame, and they thought we had to keep this a secret.”
