$450K in needed repairs means Iowa town pulling the plug on coffeepot-shaped water tower

For decades, a water tower fashioned to look like a Swedish coffee pot has towered over Stanton in southwest Iowa, the most visible symbol of the town of about 700.
But that symbol will soon be taken down. Later this year, a crane will remove the coffee pot — the reservoir where the water is stored — and place it three blocks away on the grounds of the city's Swedish Heritage and Cultural Center.
