Heat, humidity may slow garbage collections

City of Omaha officials said Monday that collection of trash, recyclables and yard waste will probably fall behind schedule this week because of hot and humid conditions.

Omaha's waste collection contractor, Deffenbaugh Industries, said the high humidity and temperatures in the mid- to upper 90s can cause health and safety issues for its employees. Deffenbaugh has urged its workers to slow their pace, drink extra fluids and seek shaded areas for rest.
