This winter’s high heating bills have added to the deepening hole that is engulfing some families.
In Omaha, natural gas bills are up 47 percent at the Metropolitan Utilities District and 35percent at Black Hills Energy. Electric bills, which typically don’t spike in the winter, are up 12 percent in southeast Nebraska, according to the Omaha Public Power District.
