Hansen: Feeling a little uprooted as the tree outside my Dundee house awaits city's saws
With giant orange “X” marks, the city last week singled out several Dundee neighborhood trees for destruction. On Monday, after the X's were painted over with red hearts and the trees were adorned with toilet paper, several of the tallest residents of Dundee were chopped down.

The tree in front of our house is suddenly famous, or maybe infamous. It is still, for the moment at least, a living thing that I dumped mulch around last spring, and the spring before that. It returns the favor by dumping leaves on the front lawn every fall.
But in the past week it has become something else. The tree in front of our house has become a symbol. It has become a cause celebre. It has become a lighting rod.
