Trial of Nikko Jenkins' mother opens in federal court

A defense attorney had called it the “fatal” flaw in prosecutors' attempts to convict Nikko Jenkins' mother of being a felon in possession of ammunition — ammo her son is alleged to have used in the killings of four Omahans.
Prosecutors had provided no evidence, nor testimony, of a critical element of the felon-in-possession charge: that Lori Jenkins' prior felony conviction had been potentially punishable by at least a year in prison.
