Dr. Michael Cherney remembers July 4, 2012 — and not because of Independence Day picnics and fireworks.
Cherney, a physics professor at Creighton University, was among thousands of researchers at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland, who crowded into conference rooms to see a televised announcement from a physics convention in Australia.
