The Christmas at Union Station season began Friday at the Durham Museum with the annual tree-lighting ceremony. The 45-foot-tall blue spruce was transported from the home of Linda and Kevin Redlinger in Millard.
The tree continues a tradition begun more than 75 years ago by Union Pacific, when the railroad cut trees from its right of way in the Pacific Northwest and sent them back to the Omaha station.
