LINCOLN — Omaha can keep levying its occupation tax on tobacco, but it would be the last such local tax under a bill advanced by the Nebraska Legislature on Friday.
Legislative Bill 474, as originally introduced, would have rescinded the tobacco tax enacted by Omaha to raise $35 million for a cancer research center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
